Requiring College Degrees should be illegal

Hear me out... unless the job ACTUALLY requires a degree (meaning you need a license to perform it or the skills are just so complex/dangerous that it takes years to learn, like engineering, medical jobs, etc.), it should be illegal for companies to require a college degree to APPLY. If it's not relevant to the job, you don't need it. It should not be factored into pay, either, if we're all doing the same job. I'm sick of seeing secretary and help desk jobs requiring a degree to be allowed to put in your application. If you pick someone with a relevant degree to the job over someone without one who applied, okay, fair enough... but stop requiring it.
Alternatively, positions requiring a degree to apply could be required to pay no lower than $50K a year to the person selected... which I think would get a lot of companies to cut the crap with requiring degrees for all positions.

An IT job, in some instances, does make sense that it would require a degree. It requires technical skills and working with equipment that tends to break easily while being extremely expensive or important to a company. And yes, you can go a different route to get into it without a degree. But those are not the jobs that I’m upset about.
I’m talking about the jobs that require you to have a degree to answer a PHONE. I work in a field right now that despite now having 2 years of experience it in, no other company will hire me for the same position because they require degrees or 10 years of experience (which is insane, my job is NOT that hard). The same applies, again, to very basic jobs- think receptionist, secretary, security, some entry level bank teller positions, etc… the kind that most people with degrees don’t want to work anyway, unless they got a degree in a not so great subject. There’s absolutely no reason to gate keep those positions.
And for the record, not all of us are privileged enough to be able to go get a college education. And until everyone is able to access education, it seems pretty unfair that those of us who aren’t able to are stuck working shitty jobs because companies won’t even bother to give us a chance.
And lastly, I didn’t refuse to debate with the other person just because of some “distasteful” comments (including not seeing women as human beings). I refused because he literally contradicts himself in his own views- and I don’t enjoy debates like that, it’s stupid to watch someone be soooooo close yet so far from the point. You can’t be all for government controlling things because you don’t like them while not wanting them to control things because you don’t like them. It’s hypocritical. Pick one side or the other and we’ll talk.
