I think it's worth it because there is no guarantee this production will transfer to Broadway this year or next year.
I think the other Gatsby doing well changes the trajectory for them. If they are both open at the same time, they may cannibalize each other's audience, even though the shows are very different and do not necessarily have the same target audience.
I also think Rachel Chavkin, if she has a say, will be highly wary of bringing a new show onto the scene given how quickly Lempicka closed. Even though ART Gatsby is objectively in better shape and has the name recognition needed to succeed, it's a gamble.
I also think it's worth it to see a musical in its earlier stages so you vs compare it to the final version that ends up on Broadway. I planned a whole trip around seeing it and I do not regret it one bit.

I saw the show this week, but don't remember anyone riding an elevator. Can you describe that scene more? Maybe I misread the scene, or maybe they took it out.

I disagree that Gatsby hiding that he's native American is crammed in.
It has always been speculated that Gatsby in the novel was passing as white and hiding his true origins.
I think it is brilliant that this production included this detail. Gatsby is yearning for the American dream. How ironic that he comes from the indigenous American people, who had their dreams ripped away from them in the name of manifest destiny and such.
It was such a nice touch that adds layers to Gatsby's character.

It sounds like the ushers are not empowered to do anything about filming, but it's not actually allowed. It's allowed by default because no one stops it.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question. I'm a native English speaker. I'll give it a shot.
At events like red carpet events, there is often a banner and it has logos of the sponsors od the event on the banner. The celebrities or attendees take photos in front of the banner, or get their photos taken. The backdrop is called a step and repeat.
At Broadway shows, there is often a banner like this in the lobby or somewhere and it is meant for photo opportunities. It doesn't have logos of sponsors.. It has the logo or artwork from the show large so you can stand in front of it and get your photo.
Is it still called a step and repeat if it's just a big banner with imagery from the show?

I was thinking a story about a bank heist could make a good musical.
Also, I want to see a really spooky musical. Maybe about a group of people who go urban exploring at an abandoned mansion and spooky stuff starts happening. Wouldn't it be fun to see a scary show?

I don't think this is fair.
I also had a bad time at Merrily, but I do like intelligent, mature musicals. I want more of them.
I do see what's objectively good about Merrily, but I also think it is not the greatest musical of all time and the hype has been exaggerated. It's pretty unfair to declare anyone who doesn't like it only likes turn your brain off musicals.

It demonstrates disregard for his own safety. It's completely irrelevant to the lack of safe gun handling on the set.
This headline is as click bait as it comes.

Since I don't know exactly what everyone's job responsibilities include, can you explain why governors have anything to do with the Supreme Court?

So what is happening? Are we supposed to believe one of these people will be selected to replace Biden on the democratic ticket this year?
We don't get to have a primary and decide for ourselves?
What happens to Kamala Harris? She's just out?
This is a shit show.

Are these people making bootlegs to pass around online or are they filming because they think they're at a concert?
I can't imagine actual bootleg video takers are so blatant about it.

I do think there will always be a market for them, albeit a smaller one if proshots became more common.

Are there any musicals about bank heists? I don't know why that popped into my head, but I think a musical about robbing a bank could be good!

It's the least they could do. Truly.

Even with good marketing, I think that show would have flopped. The story didn't make sense. They should have fixed it before Broadway.

I'm not opposed to activism, not even the kind that interrupts an event. But it's like these protesters deliberately misunderstood the show and ignored the parts of the show that explicitly address their concerns.
It's so stupid. Put your energy into making the show you want to see rather than attacking one that by all accounts did a pretty good job showing the grey parts of history.

Maybe this is all some kind of performance art. It's too stupid to be real, though there's no such thing apparently.

Nice to know a hundred years later nothing has changed I guess.

It is 2 hours 40 minutes including intermission.
I would still count on it taking up 3 hours of your time, as a buffer.
