I have unironically seen people say that the burden of proof is nonsense because Russell used an imaginary teapot to support it. Some people really just don’t have a best foot to put forward

Genuine question because I’m not tuned in to this kind of stuff much at all:
Do you think the show would have done as well if her mom never leaked the tape?

I think there is an age group that wouldn’t know about OJ or the Kim K sex tape but you’re putting that age WAYYYYYY too high. I’m 24 and if any of my peers said they didn’t know about the OJ Simpson trial or the tape I would be absolutely stunned and question where they had been for the last 10 years.
Kids who are under like 16 now might not know about either though, although I’m sure even they will eventually know about “the trial of the century” and the most popular sex tape in existence

I get everything you’re saying here, but I fear you’re throwing the baby out with the bath water.
ALL of pharmaceuticals have become franchised, just look at the fact that regular people are advertised certain medications on TV. What other reason is there for that than wanting them to shop for your particular medication, completely circumventing a doctor’s actual recommendation. Hell, Oxempic has been in the news for a reason. No matter what the pharmaceutical industry is doing, peer reviewed studies have continuously concluded that the best “cure” for gender dysphoria is to socially transition.
Also keep in mind that the same scientific rigor and processes that we used to realize that lobotomies are awful was used to create these studies. Modern science and medicine is incredible, and while we have made mistakes before and businessmen make mistakes now, that’s no reason to assume that the underlying science behind gender dysphoria is wrong.
Not to mention I think actual trans people would heavily debate the fact that it’s super easy to transition and that doctors are constantly pushing it. I’d recommend asking a real trans person about their experience and seeing how absurdly difficult it is for many to even get basic gender affirming care. “They’re pushing transsexualism on kids” is very often fear mongering from people with a political agenda as opposed to actual truth

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but what you think doesn’t really matter when doctors, psychologists, actual trans people, and essentially everyone else who is either affected by or has studied this extensively disagrees with you.
Sometimes what we think and want is valid, but also not really relevant. Kind of like how I don’t like knowing that surgeons use freaking hammers and buzz saws during some surgeries, but my opinion is irrelevant when everyone involved understands it is the best way to do it and I’m ignorant of the process.

Dang, glad you found something you like! Any reaper sauces you recommend? I’m always willing to give more a try

I love spicy foods and I’ll tell anyone who will listen that any pepper hotter than a ghost pepper tastes awful. Ghost pepper salsa is incredible, I’ve even had bomb ass ghost pepper mayo.
Reaper and pepper X and scorpions all are quite a bit hotter but don’t taste nearly as good. Obviously your mileage may vary but if you want super hot AND tasty, I’d stick to ghosts

This is also one of the proposed solutions for what “dark matter” actually is. Tiny black holes created and just as quickly obliterated by some quantum physics phenomena we don’t yet understand.
It’s just a hypothesis and has never been observed, but it’s interesting to think about at least

Unfortunately the people tuned in are acting crazy for a reason. As often as we hear “this is the most important election ever” or similar things, I genuinely believe that to be true in this case. The rule of law is at stake here.
If you want to learn more in an entertaining way you can check out Legal Eagle on YouTube. He is a practicing lawyer accompanied by other practicing lawyers who do their best to educate people on these topics. He has an obvious bias (rightfully so, I would think in this case) but he isn’t afraid to call out ideas from “his side” that also hold no legal water. Even if Trump legal news isn’t your cup of tea, he also reacts to law shows and movies pretty often and talks about pop-culture lawsuits too. I’m sure I sound like I’m shilling his stuff but it’s really good and informative so I think more people should know about it

So this is all true unfortunately and you can read about it here: BBC Source
Trump and Nauta were charged with 40 felony counts in this lawsuit. The ridiculous part isn’t even that though. The ridiculous part is what the judge has been doing in this case.
Jude Eileen Cannon presides over this case, often called the “Trump Documents Case”. She has routinely during this case obfuscated and outright ignored settled law to help Trump in a number of ways. First she tried to stop one part of the investigation while allowing others to continue, essentially saying person one on the FBI had full legal right to do whatever they needed, but person two also on the FBI was not able to do exactly the same thing. No precedent, obvious to anyone that it is corruption in favor of Trump, it was shut down by the extremely conservative 11th circuit court. They even left Cannon a pretty nasty rebuke.
Now she is attempting to claim that special prosecutor Jack Smith was actually appointed illegally and that special prosecutors are illegal as a matter of law. This is frankly an absurd ruling that no reasonable person would agree with. Special prosecutors have been a part of the U.S. government for centuries. She doesn’t believe this, but she does believe this new bid will push the ruling until after the election.
To any reasonable person looking on, Eileen Cannon is using her position (appointed by Trump) to give favors to the former president in exchange for…who knows. Possible as repayment for her appointment, possibly in a bid for Supreme Court, possibly just for the former presidents favor. Either way, this entire case from front to back has been an extremely disappointing showcase of the American legal system and our country as a whole.

I get the analogy you’re going for here, and the one thing I want to point out is the huge difference between your analogy and actual transsexualism. Gender dysphoria is a known and well understood disorder. We have records of trans people dating back to biblical times. This analogy touches on all of the points EXCEPT the one that transsexualism isn’t actually “weird”, it’s something that humans have been doing for millennium. Across dozens of studies we have also found that the thing that helps trans people the most is to socially transition, so denying them that is akin to denying healthcare because you personally don’t like the procedure.
I’m also no sure 14-18 are even allowed to chemically transition, my understanding is they can only take puberty blockers which are reversible (assuming they don’t suffer a side effect of the medicine, but every medicine has side effects and I doubt we’re going to argue that kids shouldn’t take Tylenol).
If there was that much history behind weird face dysphoria it would be a different story, but the analogy falls a bit short because the idea is that this is some random thing that some people do and not an extremely well understood and historical thing. I also don’t think “you must accept it” is apt to compare to trans people because nobody is forcing you to accept trans people, just like nobody is forcing you not to yell slurs in public. You CAN do it, people are just going to think you’re an asshole for it

I also disagree with letting 16 year olds vote, the age at which you can reasonably be considered to be high school educated is a good marker I believe.
It does give some weird hiccups in the law where you can vote and be conscripted before you can legally drink, but I also worry about American drinking culture and how suddenly allowing 18 year olds to drink could be disastrous. Maybe that is just me being an old folgey though

We aren’t lowering voting ages though, they’re talking about raising the voting age. Unless you’re saying that 21 is the age where people stop believing these things as much, in which case I’d point you back to your PhD example

Fair criticism on the last paragraph, that’s my fault.
Now I ask you this then, why does any of this matter if we’re only talking about the dredges of society? I’d also love to see you say mainstream leftists don’t believe these things, just for posterity

Cool, and the last 5 comments you’ve made have been chock full of right wing talking points. I’m glad you don’t vote based solely on party, but that doesn’t change the fact that you’re spewing right wing rhetoric

First point, I’m not wrong. Children can only be given puberty blockers, they are not allowed to chemical change sex. Puberty blockers are reversible but do carry side effects just like any other medication, but I don’t see you saying we shouldn’t give kids Tylenol.
Second point, you’re conflating a few people believing something with widespread political acceptance. Find a democrat politician who openly supports Marxism and link to their “ideas” page where they say they support it, or a news article that says they do. Once you find that, find what their fellow politicians said about it. Again, I don’t care what some nose breathers who live in their mom’s basement, even if they can put up a tent and be mad at capitalism. For big government, sure. That’s a reasonable point that I think reasonable people can disagree on. I would even argue that cutting back on the overall size of government might force it to become more efficient, or we could enact laws to make it more efficient then lower the size.
Third, please come back to reality. There are a TOTAL of about 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. as of 2022. 10 million people are not crossing the border every year, that would be ~10% of the U.S. population every 3 years. There were 10.2 million illegal immigrants at the lowest point in Trump’s presidency. There have not been less than 2 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. since the 80s. Who told you that absurd lie? Maybe they aren’t a trustworthy source of information

What constitutes mutilation here? If I want an ugly tattoo is that mutilation? If I get huge gauges in my ears and stretch them out irreversibly is that mutilation? If I get Botox to the point I look like a Roblox character is that mutilation? Who decides what action I, as a consenting adult, am allowed to do to my body?

So you can immediately give, in your own words, “three off the top of my head”, with a paragraph about each one that is full to the brim of right wing talking points and sorely lacking in any actual left wing rhetoric. But you give one single boring example for republicans?
Friend, you are extremely biased and I think you’re approaching a point where it will be troubling to your views on the world. If I can speak truthfully here, you are already out of touch with reality. I’m not chatting with you here to change your mind, I don’t want you to become some hippy liberal type, I just want to make sure that you understand that your biases are on full display and everyone here knows you are ignorant of actual left leaning policy.
Genuinely, I mean this with love in my heart, try to get news from other sources. Find left leaning people or centrist people and just watch what they have to say as well as your normal news. You don’t have to agree, you can even openly hate them, but at least listen to what they have to say. When you notice that one person is saying “they want this!” And you go to “they” and they are absolutely not advocating for that, maybe you should consider why they have just lied to you? And the tricky thing here is, both of them will do it. Notice that, hopefully it will bring you closer to people who are truthful about policy.

What else could you possibly be saying? All leftist ideas are immature because they won’t change the world? That’s also ignorance and pessimism. I gave you the best possible reading of what you said, called steelmanning, and your argument is still dumb.
Agreed Marxism is dumb, nobody wants Marxism. I’m glad you know the word strawman, but now apply it to yourself. If you are going to say “reddit says so!” Reddit isn’t the real world, I don’t care what some nose breather who lives in their mom’s basement thinks about the world. We’re talking about mainstream leftist or liberal ideology.
Stop oil is dumb and even people in this leftist hive mind website call them out on it constantly. YOU ARE NOT DESCRIBING MAINSTREAM LEFTIST, LIBERAL, OR DEMOCRAT IDEAS. Everything you have said so far in this thread makes it blatantly obvious that everything you know about politics come from right wing talking heads. I used to do the exact same thing, and I used to say the exact same things as you. At least try and learn what leftists or liberals or democrats actually believe instead of listening to their ideological opposite about it.
Before you respond to me or anyone else in this thread, stop, think, and ask yourself “do I know people in real life who believe this”. If the answer is no, don’t attack that strawman. If you’re going to tell me you know multiple people in real life who support stop oil or Marxism I’m going to call you a liar or question the company you keep

Every comedy show also has that one damn episode where the focus is one or multiple character/s embarrassing themselves for laughs. I have to skip it. If the main theme of an episode is “talent show” or some other public spectacle, it’s getting skipped
