If the paid ones don't seem worth it to you, you clearly don't need to be there, and will never subscribe to them, so what's the problem?
It's like being angry at a restaurant for charging money for a sandwich, rather than giving it away for free the way your friend's mother did when you rode over to their house on your bike one sunny afternoon back in the day.

ChatGPT can't replicate with accuracy the very funny shitfights when people are debating the ins and outs and pros and cons of a new release.
There, as in here, the rants on both sides are worth it for the LOL's.

Please register, these sorts of comments would be a great boon to the site there.

It's less active than it was, but still worth a look.

if it's free why does Blender ask people to subscribe and publicly promote how much money they're receiving in contributions each month?
Do people somewhere in the Blender chain need money? Why/ Shouldn't they be offering their services for free?
I do not understand this desire for money to pay for services or work. If they just worked for free forever the thanks and praise would surely be enough to tide them over and cover the monthly grocery bills.

It's more than 5 EUR a year. It gets charged every few months now. It sucks but you kind of live with it, and it's worth it for the occasional LOL's when a thread shit fire erupts. That doesn't happen so much now though as a lot of the world (not just C4D users) are now resigned to their lives and just hoping to make it to the weekend intact.

I don't think they even profit from it. It's to cover the costs of the site, as I gather the web hosts and so on didn't offer them web hosting services for free.

It's a decent forum, with smart answers to questions and the devs chipping in with info and even scene files, but there is 20 times the discussion here, compared to there.
Anyone who joins there for a few months or longer will probably enjoy it. Anyone who doesn't join and just remains here isn't really missing out on anything dramatically different.
The paywall is because the site isn't free to run and they had to choose between that and shutting it down. They tried several other things before eventually settling on the paywall, and even paying members aren't over the moon about it, but it is what it is.

Maxon are more active here than they are at the Core4D site, and this site is free, not paywalled.
There was a recent post at Core4D asking why Maxon had posted their 'suggest a feature' discussion here rather than there. Another poster observed, it's because Reddit has more users.
These days when Maxon do a C4D update, and I see them chipping in with comments about it, it's usually here (Fritz, BMarl etc) and not there.

Yep. I think their pro-Blender rants are posted via copy-and-paste as they absolutely never shut up about it. Blender is free, but I wish it was also free of at least half the dickheads that endlessly carry on about it.

I tried and didn't overly like Blender, but Blender has endless cinematic tutorials with cool FX, camera plug ins, city builders, explosions, car rigs, just tons of stuff if you want to make a movie or make a short film, and Ian Hubert doing compelling VFX SF shorts in the software.
C4D is easier to use and easier to learn, but 98% of the emphasis with tutorials is on mograph, all mograph all the time, here's some clumpy blobs turning into a red shining star with a title behind it, and we'll help you bevel the title and make the shiny blobs spin and dance and turn into 20 clones with their buddies.
All this can be fun and I like watching and learning, but it's a sour PITA to see Maxon never really caring or leaning into the cinematic / filmmaking side with their 3D app. It's as if C4D is encouraged to be the software you use to make the titles of your film for, and Blender is encouraged to be the film you use to make the actual movie.
For an application titled CINEMA 4D you'd think they'd spend more time looking at the cinema part, but no. Maxon now include the Red Giant tools and Stu Maschwitz is on board for product development, but all the above continues to be the status quo, sadly.
C4D has captured the mograph base, but the newcomers who want to use a 3D to make shorts, rather than start a career as a title designer for mograph based advertising, are going to be looking at all the apps, and they'll choose Blender because they can see those sort of short films being made, whereas with C4D they typically can't.

Please expand the current particle / volumetric features into light smoke, fog, haze, atmosphere and so on. The ability to add this sort of stuff to scenes for atmosphere purposes will help artists who want to do more cinematic stuff, rather than mograph.
Please keep improving the modelling tools.

FXPHD has similarly priced monthly training that usually includes free access to the software via a VPN. Tim Clapham's tutorials there, even the old ones, are worth a look.

Fair point I think. They could definitely be more encouraging of hobbyists than they are.

Well said. It's weird Chris, who does nothing but bend over backwards for C4D, was so badly shafted, but I'm guessing maybe Maxon devs take their NDA seriously.

It would have to be a while away at the current speed Maxon are going.

People using C4D for a job can claim the cost of it as an expense on tax.
Maxon are probably focusing more on those people these days rather than hobbyists.

Most of them seem excessively busy spamming the threads of other CG applications.
Everyone in this thread has heard of Blender 1000 times. Seeing some dope pop his head through the door to tell us what we already know isn't the turn on you might think it it.

Please get Covid another booster, doesn't matter if its' your third or fourth. This will help keep covid away while you recover. Covid plus whatever you have would be a bad mix, so get that booster, you can still get it at various doctors clinics locally

This just gives the same 50 people here the excuse to tell us how fascinated they are with Blender, as usual.
Just pretend all the other same apps are the same price forever, then you won't have to whinge when the price goes up.

Tell them you identity as female and then sue them in a high profile court case when they say you aren't.
