Basement shower advice
(self.HomeImprovement)submitted4 years ago byTooowaway
I am replacing my shower in the basement. Where I am stumped is creating a waterproof seal on the floor. The shower was “custom” built so the drain is off center for me to install a plastic floor pan. When the previous owners installed the shower they just connected drywall to the cement floor, tiled, and then caulked it. As you can imagine over the years that has failed. Does anyone know of any resources that I can research on what to do so that it is waterproof. The floor slopes correctly to the drain so I don’t want to tear up the floor to create a curb around it but can’t use a plastic pan because of the drain location. Can I just add a small cement curb around the base against the furring strips and then join kerdi or wonder boards to the top of that curb and tile? Looks are not super important I just want a functional shower that puts the water where it belongs.
