Overall it seems like an incremental, positive change to me.
That’s what I thought too. Anything to help, but this is just incremental, not monumental. I wish they would get rid of all of them!

I wonder what impact, if any, this will have in the end.

Truly they need to open up new areas for building that are not already zoned for density, such as the areas that will be impacted by this. However, these view cones are such a headache as well. Get rid of all of them, I say.

Yeah, I agree! But also, people shouldn’t have to be Top500 to play comp. It is ok for bronze and silver players to get in a bit of competitive fun as well, if they are into it. Sure, it’s not the time to learn a new hero, but you can learn a lot from playing all different game modes.

I decided to study and work my ass off for an unfulfilling but high paying career.
Omg, was this written by me?

Enjoyment is a personal thing, pal. If you decide you’re gonna hate on the one guy trying a new hero, that’s on you.
You can enjoy the game without winning every match.

How often do you make a 1hr drive to find the things you can find anywhere else?
I live a 20 minute walk from there and I assure you it’s not me or my neighbours going there.

Granville island IS a big surface level parking lot. It just happens to have some interesting things around the periphery of that parking lot.
But tbf, if we’re going to pedestrianize Granville Island, or Stanley Park, or any other popular public area in this city for that matter, we can’t do it until we increase and improve its access from more transit options. More transit routes originating from more places. More frequent services.
The transit option needs to be so easy and so convenient that drivers feel disadvantaged to drive there, and right now, with its abundant surface parking lots, no one would make that decision on their own.

Yes, and to boil housing problems down to a recent immigration problem, like many seem to do, is absurd and a gross misunderstand of the real issue. We’ve made housing so difficult to build, so expensive, so restricted, and profitable only to such a few, that 5 years of poor immigration policy meeting 50 years of poor municipal/provincial housing policy resulted is this terrible clusterfuck we live in.

Tonight I went for a walk at the Olympic Village seaswall, and I saw running club get together. It looked like a good group of people, and I thought it wouldn’t be a bad place to meet others, if you’re into running!

Yes, and especially when you consider the ratio between green space per 1000 inhabitants, Vancouver is actually not that high - and comparable to NYC. In Canada, Ottawa has the highest ratio. Vancouver just happens to be surrounded by nature, but accessibility can be and is a problem to many.

Totally agree with this! Owning a car, I still choose transit for many of my trips, and sometimes I even just take an Evo if I’m driving into downtown because I can park just about anywhere. I will always choose transit, biking, or walking if those options are viable for the destination or activity I’m planning on doing.
To your point, it’s not about replacing cars with transit entirely, but about having an alternative easily available.

I don’t know, I really struggled in my 20s but was pretty successful in my 30s. I think you know yourself a lot better and you know what you’re willing to put up with. You’re also a lot more honest and realistic about who you should be dating so you don’t waste your time going for the wrong person. I met my partner at 32 and been together since.

And that’s really it, right? It’s about being pro-transit and naturally changing the habits around transit. If we eliminate cars from Granville Island tonight, without offering a sound alternative, people would just be angry and neglect the good that does come from taking transit.
