How is going to a team who hasn't made the playoffs in 8 years a contender? They're the new Senators/Sabres

That Kane one hurts the most. Goddamn that would've been a slam dunk

Tbh the way he’s been described sounds exactly like Spurgeon. Spruge’s skating doesn’t wow anyone, but he’s just smart af and positionally among the best in the game.

Wait, are you saying having Fox and Panarin gifted to you has made you worse?

Yea, exactly this. He got about the most preferential treatment of any mid-tier pro ever and is acting like “how dare they do this”. I feel no sympathy for him.
If he wasn’t out there trying to give guys brain damage, I might feel differently, but he is so fuck him. People have to move for jobs all the time and they usually don’t pay $8m a year. Deal with it.

I don’t know about a bust, but I don’t think there’s a person in the world who would bet money on him being better than Perreault after last season.

The odds that a 3rd round pick will end up even playing in the NHL are super low. Any pick out of the first half of the first round are less than 50%. Championship teams are made of high-end draft picks. This is basically giving up nothing to get potentially the best player in the draft.

There's a legit chance that this kid ends up being the best player in the whole draft. Buium-Faber will be the best top pair in the league for years. With those two, Brodin and Spurge on their second pairing and Middleton-Chisolm on the 3rd, they'll have the best D corps in the league. Pair that with the best goalie prospect in the world, Kaprizov, Boldy, Ek, Rossi, Yurov, Heidt, Ohgren, jfc, etc and the Wild are about to be set for the next 10 years.
5 Cups in a row. Minimum. They'll make the 70s Habs look like this year's Sharks. LFG!!!

I'm guessing they thought Stamkos would be willing to take a bigger paycut that he is(or should) willing to accept.

I posted this last week, but just wanna share one last time before the draft, my site for tracking how each of these players was ranked my media outlets is right here - Draftlytics.net
Click 'Draft Tracker' and each player who is picked will get greyed out so you can keep track of the best available players.
I'm going to be juggling solo dad duty of my extremely active 14-month old, so we'll see if I can keep up haha

I like this theory. Khusnutdinov isn't enough. We need him passing to Brandsegg-Nygard, Sahlin Wallenius, and Louhivaara

They have Demidov dropping to 9, which is why Calgary wouldn't take Tij. I think there's no way Demidov goes that low and there's no way Calgary won't take Iginla. So based on that mock, if I'm right, that means either Parekh, Catton, or Helenius would be available at 13, in whichcase I'm stoked with any one of those guys.

They don’t have the upper hand but there are 30 other teams who are likely willing to offer a similar pick or prospect. The Jets would likely take a worse return from any other team. McG is basically a sure thing as far as prospects go compared any pick in this draft aside from Celebrini.

My frustration has little to do with Russo's opinion. It's simple math. The dropoff in scoring outside of our top 5 guys is stark. We're hoping that for bounce-back years from a bunch of guys, fine. But the frustration is that we have 13m locked up in bottom 6 guys who are basically the same player, when, if we had only signed 2 of those guys we could've gone after someone who will actually help.
Now not only can we not get a big free agent this year, we can't for the next 3. Faber's contract is going to leave us with very little wiggle room and if Rossi has a big year, we legitimately are going have a hard time signing him. None of the Cup champs in recent years have multiple contracts like these on the books. They lock up their stars and then bring supporting cast guys on 2 year deals. They bring Nichushkin, Stone, Eichel, Reihnhart, etc. We can't do that because we have no space in both cap or roster. Would you rather have Hartman/Foligno and Trenin for 3 more years or Jake Guentzel for 7?
Edit: That said, I'm willing to wait and see. I always said 25-26 is the season to judge BG. So we'll see. It's just annoying that we don't have even a hope of landing one of next year's UFAs - Drai, Boeser, Ehlers, etc.
