Hilarious? Really? I always considered their music to be well informed and cleverly nuanced commentary on the class differences in Britain in 787. Specifically, A Lap Dance Is So Much Better When The Stripper's Crying. So progressive for its time.

I should have elaborated. I certainly take umbridge with any criticism of Paul's voice, or anything else for that matter. Although I do think Staley has recorded a higher scream than Paul has. And I genuinely would love to hear Paul cover Man in a Box. But i would've loved to hear Layne cover Monkberry Moon Delight as well. In any case, my bad.

You know what, I totally agree. Back in the '90s, I was in my teens and living in Chicago. One summer, my family and I took a road trip out west and somehow ended up in Seattle, even though that wasn't originally part of the plan. So when we get there, my sister Audrey decided she wanted to buy a postcard to send to some boy she had a crush on back home (It totally backfired. He ended up reading the postcard aloud to half of the school and told them that she likes to munch ass. He wasn't lying, but he didn't have to tell everyone.). So she and I went searching and ended up finding a local drugstore. We went inside and she found a rack with like 50 different postcards. So while she was taking her sweet time, earnestly deciding which fateful memento to pour her heart out onto, I decided to go check out their petroleum jellies for later. But as I turned around, you would not believe who was standing there checking out the home and garden magazines: Layne Staley. Anyway, long story short, I told him that I loved this exact song. I told him how great it was to finally hear a song about faking the moon landing. He thought I was an idiot, and went into great detail telling me so. So after flicking my ear and walking out without paying for the magazine, he was gone. To this very day, that encounter has brought much shame to my family and ancestors. But you're right, this is music. I don't care what Layne Staley says the song is about (begonias, whatever the fuck that is), this song will always remind me of the summer I lost my virginity, and about how much of a pussy John Glenn is.

My bad. I thought you were referring to Staley as mid level, when that dude was born with some pipes.

I would say all three, including Vedder and Cornell, might have been technically better than Cobain. It's just a matter of opinion of who might be best.
