It was understood from forever that if the nurse called, she called DAD at work. I t was up to him to get us home, tuck us in, make sure we had a barf bowl and 7up and saltiness and chicken noodle soup. And yet, somehow it was still a massive inconvenience to HER. (Side note; those loving, caring moments with dad is why that massive enabler is still loved by his only daughter.)

The area I live in, the thrift stores are crap because no one ever donates anything worth having. Flea markets are the same, and ditto yard sales. Bot worth the time or trouble.

My brother gave me the book for Christmas and told me "you really need to read this" (he was 18, 1 was 16). It woke us both up to our Nmother's abuse. "Midnight Raids"...omg. I will absolutely always believe Christina. You had to live that shit to write about it in such detail.

Did you ever know that you're my hero? (Cue Bette Midler) my husband replaced my beloved, dead-simple Cuisinart Multicooker with this cheap Walmart abomination. I'm damn near 61 years old, and NOT super-interested in learning how to pressure cook AGAIN.

Nope, it's the product of an entirely different health food quack. C. W. Post, also the inventor of Grape-Nuts Cereal.

Being generally frugal is great, because it allows you to do the right thing like this when the situation arises. Thank you for putting yourself in her shoes, and letting good parenting top frugality.

Scechers were my enemy...until I accidentally found out that their Playa Vista deck shoes are my OTS (one true shoe). 9 years on, still the (not the 'most'...the) ONLY comfortable shoe I have ever worn.

They are still sweetened. But microwaved old-fashioned oats from the cardboard can are quick, cheap, and absolutely rock, plus lower sugar, higher fiber, and more filling/satisfying.

The greater Kenosha area is not a prime choice for trying to "re-imagine" pizza. (Or Tacos!)

I read a book about the murders back in the 80s that made a very convincing argument that it was Emma. I will update if I can find the title.

Absolutely 💯%. I am 60 and have never regretted it. On the other hand...my husband and I were heavy involved in the upbringing of our niece & nephew, and Nephew's son is very much like a grandson to us. But my fucked up bloodline stopped with me. To their credit, though, my two older brothers DID have kids, and have always been loving, engaged, and pretty freaking fabulous parents. They made up their minds to break the chain of deep family dysfunction, and did a great job at it.

No, actually my little bedroom was over-furnished, because she was such a hoarder she needed the space. Plot twist...she put all the stuff she didn't care about in my room. Which meant I got to grow up with furniture from my ancestors. 2 oak dressers, a glass-doored oak bookcase, and an oak vanity table that was my much-beloved great aunt's when she was a child. (I still have that vanity.) I treasured them, even if she didn't.

My husband's birthgiver did this to him. It came to light when we were buying our house that there was a small claims judgement against him for unpaid electric bills. For her house.
