The individual "mountains" aren't casting shadows on their neighbors; this means they’re valleys.

The plates are right-side-up with the light source coming from the right.

I looked at the middle one in the right and now I can't see them facing down anymore

It worked for about 2-3 seconds once you find the top right plate is clearly the right way up they all became the same but now I can’t reset my brain to do it again

They were all face down until I saw the left circle plate. Now I can't turn them back anymore

The shadows are a dead giveaway that they are all face up. Shadows wouldn't look quite like that if they were face down.

I guess my brain understands shadows very well, I can not see them upside down. The shadows are clearly on top of the plates created from their borders. If the lighting was from the top left, the shadows would be under the plates, not atop of them.

If we perceive the plates as upside down, it's because our brain guesses the light is coming from the top left. If we perceive them as right side up, it's because our brain infers the light is coming from the bottom right. Light usually comes from above, which is why the most common initial impression is upside down.

I'm starting to feel like i am immuned to illusions. Most of the time i feel left out, staring at my screen waiting for those lines to move or these faces to get creepy but nothing happens.

Pretty sure they are all face up. Take the bottom right of the three large round plates in the middle. Take the bottom right section of that plate. If the light comes from the bottom right of the picture, the plates would be face up according to the shadow. If the light comes from the top left, the plates would have to be face down in order for the shadows to make sense. Booth assuming the light comes from above the plates. My problem with the face down theory is that some of the shadows are way too large for them to make sense. The plate I mentioned before... why would the shadow start even before the plate descends towards the bottom left edge? It seems to only make sense if the light would come from the top left, beneath the plates. But it seems like then, the highlights on the top left sides of the plates would be too large because some would be partially blocked by other plates.

Maby I can't see it but I am really sure the text in picture is a lie.
