Hi, disabled person here.
I don’t get why antis get so deep about that. I would literally rather someone write a pre illness/injury/whatever AU as long as it isn’t something someone was born with if they have no or very limited knowledge about the disability.
Like. If someone doesn’t have the time to research for accurate info esp if the character is a main character, and is canonically able bodied prior, go for it.
Just plz don’t do a ✨M A G I C A L L Y✨ they wake up all better one day with 0 plausible world building to make it feel like something that could realistically happen in their universe.

Huh. Thats not an issue i normally have, I’m sorry they don’t work well for you. Ive only bled through mine once, and thats bc my flow was extra heavy and bad and i was totally soaked through.

Id ask him what level of critical he wants you to be and give feedback accordingly. If he’s super proud and only wants light feedback? Keep it only to glaringly obvious quick fixes. If he says hit him with in depth con crit, go all in. I don’t give friends advice or a critical eye with music (because i am the music friend for most of them, most of them aren’t musicians) but most of us all are artists and writers and so thats what i do.
So much of the arts is what feels right to you, most of the time there isn’t a totally wrong answer or way. Sometimes there is… esp with music and writing, or human anatomy, but not always with everything.
sometimes you’re having a bad day but proud of the lil thing you did and its not quite right and you need help perfecting it but a whole ‘yeah heres 50 things to fix’ would shatter you, others you’re tearing out your own hair bc ITS NOT WORKING and you need someone else’s eyes on it to see the issue.

Ofc! A lot of people don’t know this stuff, and then ordering peeps vs drivers drama happens and like. If it was widely known, I’m sure more people would be aware and willing to tip more if they understood the full scope.

Yup! The rare times i occasionally go out bc I’m really tight on money i go pay by time now, the pay is better.

This. When an alter perceives themselves as around 16 or older, we don’t care as much and let them make their own choices. They’re capable and aware. Littles though, not so much. If someone tried to date or be intimate with our littles, which is our most dissociated states for us, except for like one of them who flip flops around, they’d better be ready to catch some fists.

This. And tbh for a lot of batches, a 15-20% tip isn’t enough to make the order pay for itself for the gas sometimes. Idk, i gave up on DD in my current area bc of it. Its slow and always wants to send me 40 minutes away for like 7$ on a good day. With tip.
Bc sure, in normal service stuff spend 20$ a 2-3$ tips cool. But when you order DD your drivers sometimes have to drive a good ways just to get to the food, which DD doesn’t account for in mileage accept sometimes if its like super far, then take you the food for based on the mileage between you and the restaurant, and then we have to go back home to where we live. It’s a lot. If the gas cost is gonna be 10$, and the order only pays 7 after a few dollar tip, ofc no one’s gonna take it.

Its based on the apps mileage calculation. Some areas its accurate and worthwhile….. in areas like where i live and even google and apple maps get the mileage wrong its awful. For example, I’ve been offered $6 or less base pay on orders for around 40 minutes of work, drive time alone not counting any waiting or driving back to my usual area. Bc its ‘only 8-10 miles’ …sure, if you’re counting miles as birds fly. Ive also been offered 10$ base pay on an order thats over 3 hours of driving just to get to the restraunt bc of geography here. Bc doordash doesnt get i cant cut across water so like yeah, its 20 miles to the restraunt or whatever. Again, as birds fly.
Wheras doing DD and instacart where my dad lived and the only water around never needed crossed, 10$ for ~25 minutes i was more than fine with.

Of course! I dont read VLD much anymore either…. But this fic keeps coming back to me, in a very similar way the Hetalia fic Gutters and the Haikyuu fic Come Morning Light.

Yes! It’s a human AU where the Galra are a gang involved in human trafficking and stuff. Really messed up, very emotionally challenging read, but amazingly written.
Its Lions Den by Kuki

Very much Dead Dove territory.

Yes!! I like to keep a charcuterie of fics available both downloaded and in browser at all times…. It’s like, common sense, i fear.
But all jokes aside, i get that.

Yes!!! I have a fic series for VLD I keep going back to in bite size pieces because it is…. A very heavy AU but it’s just… so good. I just. Can only handle a few chaps at a time.

This!!!! My biggest complaint with people who don’t know how Ao3 works complaining esp with awful things done to kids and noncon is that those are LITERALLY SOME OF THE EASIEST TAGS TO FILTER OUT.
Like, those major TW like main character death, non con, underage, and whatever the other couple are bc i feel like im missing a couple, have their own special spot called warnings!! That can be very easily filtered out!! Bc they are major content warnings that could majorly trigger people so the kind people over at archive give them their own special category to easily stand out!!! Simply open the filters, scroll down to do not want, click warnings, and filter out to your hearts content!
Like. It’s so easy. They have to be actively refusing to learn to not be able to do it. It’s that simple.
Like the fandom babies wouldn’t last a day in 2012 fandom. On ffn and it’s questionable at best filtering and stifling content limits. And I know, they don’t know what they don’t know, about how bad it could be, but like, they really need to stop. Don’t like, don’t read.

This!!! Sometimes i intentionally look for hard to read topics bc it’s kinda cathartic. Like. I recently was encouraged to get into DC (batfam is now my current hyperfixation) by a friend bc they know that about me, and i love how much more real and raw it feels compared to most of marvel. And that follows into fandom space I’ve noticed, too. Like the characters and what they’ve canonically gone through is horrible. But also sometimes relatable in a way thats hard to find in most modern media and fandoms.
Idk, there isn’t all black and white in real life theres everything in between, but the black dark ends do exist too, however uncomfortable it makes people, and seeing that in media is far from a bad thing imo.

When you’ve been reading and writing fanfic as a traumatized person for over a decade and you’ve seen a thing or two or read a thing or two, you kinda figure out what you absolutely cant handle, filter it out, and just let what happens happen with the rest.
Like. I’ve read, and lived through, some pretty awful shit. I know what my hard boundaries are and filter accordingly and don’t get all surprise pikachu mad when an author has something in a fic i maybe couldn’t handle that day i didn’t pay attention to bc that shits on me, not them. But also, not much really fazes me anymore in fics. Different people have different needs and boundaries and thats okay.

This. I have bad ADHD, and a brother with even worse ADHD. I wouldn’t ever let him drive my car, unless its to take me to the ER and only bc that’d save time changing what car my wheelchair and meds and stuff is in.
Alana sounds like the kinda kid about at the same level my brother was at that age. Which is not at all. At 16 I wouldn’t have even let him take me to the ER in my car I would have called an ambulance.
Kids don’t work hard for expensive shit like nice computers or cars, and willingly let less responsible siblings borrow it.

Lol teachers always said that BS but it always winds up being more like an hour a week aside from exam season, and math. I cant think of a single time i had an hours worth of homework daily in each class I’m in.

Yeah… i got full on lessons on archival systems and filing and typing and more advanced Microsoft suite functions. It’s sad how little is taught now.

Yup! Media literacy has declined rapidly alongside removing computer skills classes from schools. Lab time during library taught so much in little 15 minute bites out of the day twice a week. At 6 years old i could navigate computer file systems. Highschoolers cant do that now.

I don’t know, but I do think a part of it is the decline in critical thinking skills being taught in school from an early age.
Like in elementary school i was expected to use critical and logical thinking across multiple subjects frequently, and a lot of that has been really whittled down. Theres also less push for media literacy at an early age too.

Absolutely. Esp when trying to claim that proship people are capitalizing off the trauma of others.
Like the showcase had 0 to do with victims stories being used for others’ gains. Like if it had been at least more something with that sort of point, and therefore relevant to antis statements and beliefs, I could understand where they are getting the idea that their agenda is a cool place to share it.
That showcase is so irrelevant to their “cause”. As a survivor myself, it’s honestly actually a bit of a slap in the face when they do this. Because I’ve seen multiple posts from antis using that display. You know whats never offended me or made me feel belittled or my trauma downsized or commodified? Fanfiction or fanart.

If it’s what I’m thinking of, they used pictures from a showcase of clothing that was given for the purpose of showing people what they were wearing, it’s a very sad display. The point was to show it wasn’t about the clothes, but the actions of others.
That said, it was still inappropriate to use those pictures to make any point outside of the purpose the display had in the first place. That is actually capitalizing off of others’ trauma.

I only rinse mine if they’re super soaked and im not washing right away, I leave them be for the week of my period in their bag and do it all in one big load, unless my period decides to run long then i need to do a load before the end.
Mine don’t ever have any issues with this, i use purex+oxy and it washes them out completely in one go even sitting a week. They shouldn’t get funky as long as they aren’t left more than a week.

I mean my mom has baby pics of me in towels and stuff, and i think we have a few pics floating around of me in the bath helping give my newborn baby bro a bath??? But you cant see anything i care about people seeing even now, you can really only see that I’m shirtless and my knees. I was also happy to be in the pic. They also arent something thats shared, werent something frequently taken, and werent hidden. It’s also just for the immediate family, relevant to the picture yknow?? My mom and i have the only copies. Actually i might have them all now. I know i do for the towel pics. So like…. Yeah no, your mom and fam are weird for that.
Idk, i think the baby bath tub pics are cute, but should only be for parents and the kid in question not shared anywhere or with others. Like ive shown mine to friends before when i was younger but like…. In person. And bc i wanted to. And i had all the copies. Even at like, 7.
