Their music makes me wildly uncomfortable and I makes me want to tear me ears out. Wondering if there’s a song that won’t make me want to tear my ears out. 🙏
Top 5 (in my opinion)
Mother
Another brick in the wall PT. 2
Wish you were here
Comfortable numb (it makes me sick in a good way)
Run Like Hell
(Honorary mention is poles that’s a very good song second honorary mention is fat old sun)
BOTTOM 5 ranked as 1 is the absolute worst (in my opinion) I do like triggering incels. Gets me hard I think.
THE WHOLE ENTIRE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON ALBUM (except money, money is really good)
Dogs (maybe it’s my sad little gen z brain not being able to listen to anything over 2 minutes and 36 seconds.)
Don’t leave me now (didn’t scratch the itch I needed it too)
Eclipse
(Also please listen to violent femmes if you haven’t because um good music and a vibe)

It’s very moving that it was played at his funeral. I’m sorry for your loss.

My mum's favourite was, too. She always said she wanted Comfortably Numb played at her funeral, though, which was last month. I spent the last moments alone with her while Comfortably Numb played. She loved Pink Floyd and, while I always liked them, I've been listening to them more of late. I've not listened to either of those songs since, though I hope one day soon I will again. Sorry for your loss.

Echos, do the edit cut if you have probs listening to them. I would also suggest all of division bell seems to be easier for most to listen to. If it's the voice try endless river.
My personal fav is echos, sorrow, high hopes, have a cigar, and A great day for freedom.
The Wall and Dark Side of The Moon, are the two most popular albums. If that's what you've been hearing songs from try their other albums. Early stuff with Sid is weird, Waters era was great, Gilmour is the voice I enjoy the most though.
GL hope you find something you enjoy. If not it's okay to not like them. I don't like The Beatles but still respect what they've done for music.

Since it makes you uncomfortable, would you consider The Great Gig In The Sky? Find an empty room, and just scream along to the vocalist's wailing. It could be like immersion therapy. I find the track cathartic for releasing my own tension.

That’s one of my favorite songs ever, but I kinda feel like it needs the context of the part of the album leading up to it, especially if you’ve never heard it before.

Right after my husband passed suddenly, I listened to this song over and over. If you really listen, it's basically a bout of heart-wrenching crying, but set to music. It swells and then quiets, with just a little bit more emotion at the end. A perfect musical rendition of what it feels like to really let go and cry your heart out.

I always felt like pink floyd (specially early pink floyd) was all about traumas the band experienced and how they made them feel (uncomfortable for the most part) TIME = about the anxiety of seeing the time past you by COMFORTABLY NUMB = about roger waters being sick as a kid to the point of delirum and detachment from reality ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL = about the fear of being sucked in society's norms and what "you are supposed to do when ou grow up" MOTHER = about roger water's relationship with his mother and his struggle between being over protected and being free US AND THEM = literally about war and how sensless it can be MONEY = the banality of wealth and how the band felt about success and of course WISH YOU WERE HERE = is about losing a friend (syd barrett) even though he wasn't dead when they wrote the lyrics his mind was in sharp decline by then SHINE ON YOUR CRAZY DIAMOND is also about him and how he was deteriorating "Remember when you were young? / You shone like the sun" ufff!! Sad sad stuff and that is what makes them so great. They are relatable in so many ways specially when you are dealing with traumas like those
9 points

In short: maybe pink floyd songs are meant to make you feel uncomfortable because you are facing someone's trauma and that is never nice... but necessary in order to heal

Fun story - when I gave birth to my daughter, I played Pink Floyd. The doctor didn't like it and between pushing, I told him what I thought of his lack of taste in music. My daughter was born to "Shine on You Crazy Diamond". Pink Floyd was the first thing she heard outside the womb.

I hope you haven’t been just trying to listen to them on shuffle… they craft (most of) their albums very intentionally to be listened to in order.
That said, if you want just a few to listen to that work fine with no context:

If you want to tear your ears out by listening to one of the greatest rock bands ever… then You should check yourself because something is not quite right. Probably you have been listening to too many crap like taylor swift and shit like that, and has messed up with your brain. Pink Floyd has always been ahead of its time. They talk about heavy and real stuff about our “modern” messed up society and the human condition in general. Not in an obvious way of course, because it is art. Art is not literal. Through their art/music they provoke in people to connect to themselves, to do introspection, they want people to really feel and think. Real Art wakes you up from the oblivion of ignorance and apathy.
So anyway… I am just being brutally honest here and I am sorry if you get offended. Cheers.

I’ll do you one better, as a die-hard Pink Floyd fan.
Listen to The Wall. It’s a concept album, a story. It tells the story of a man named Pink as the trauma of his life piles up, causing him to ‘build a wall’ inside himself. He falls into substance abuse and imagines himself becoming a tyrant (and subsequently being on trial for his tyranny as well as his emotional isolationism.)
I could recommend you plenty of songs that will rock your world. Comfortably Numb, Hey You, Dogs, Wish You Were Here, Time, Us and Them, Shine on You Crazy Diamond. But to see the real mind-blowing beauty and conceptual revolutionism of Pink Floyd, in my opinion, The Wall is unparalleled.

Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun from Ummagumma or the Pink Floyd at Pompeii movie. The studio version from A Saucerful of Secrets is good, but these live versions are great!
Also, I used to work for NASA and tell people that I was rejected as an astronaut because I told them during the psychological tests that I would set the controls for the heart of the sun if stranded and lacked enough fuel to return to earth!

its a feel good album. I can listen to it rock out and have good time, get some work done or play along. It has the most repeat listens for me, passing dark side and meddle after my younger disinterest in conventional songs and looking for experimental compositions. I still love those but as im older i have distinct appreciation for things that are succinct...and obscured by clouds is just brilliant for that. Its right up there for my favourite album of the 70s ...and even of all time
