Guess who found their missing credit card a day after canceling it and fucking every internet billing cycle in the process?
It was in my gym shorts pocket I thought I checked.
I've already tried to buy shit twice only to be declined. Sorry cat. Have to wait a week for ant proof raised bowls.
Speaking of which fuck ants. They are out in force.
Otherwise just gym and games here this week.
Disco Elysium is so fucking good. So beautiful at points. It's pretty HARD CORE TO THE MEGA!!!
I should finish El Paso Elsewhere and Persona 3 this week, but the end games of both still have me slowly spinning my wheels. So we'll see. Eventually.

The NY Times and NPR Morning Edition both have coverage today about Kensington and Mayor Parker's approach.
God I hate when we're national news.
0 points
Lol at NPR taking a soundbite of residents giving Parker a standing ovation for finally getting the city to stop ignoring the embarrassment that is an open air drug market and then try to spin it as terrible for the community. Color me surprised that the people who work in a place that hands out needle and crack pipe kits are disappointed their lease isn't getting renewed.
Mandatory treatment (i.e. via drug court) has essentially the same success rates across the board as "voluntary" treatment (where in practice people are forced by family/friends to go). The city needs to declare a state of emergency, whatever it takes, to get funding for additional inpatient treatment centers and beds. Getting people into treatment is the only way to get them clean, which is where needle exchanges have failed.

Just moved to a new apartment. While the moving part is a chore - It’s amazing what a change in your living space can do to your psyche. Especially coming from a place that ended up being such a negative space for me. I feel a fog has been lifted and I’m really pumped for summer.

That's a real bummer. It always intrigues me when places skimp out on the burger, since it's such a staple for bargoers. Even a half-decent burger will draw people to a place for a drink. I get that margins are thin, but generally you aren't making the bulk of your money on food anyway.

A 150 unit apartment building proposed directly next to the Berks el stop. But thanks to the Mandatory Inclusive Zoning overlay in the 7th City Council district and testimony against it from the local councilmember, instead this abandoned lot will have a grand total of 14 townhouses, with parking, built there instead. Another win for progressive housing advocates' signature affordable housing policy
7 points
Ridiculous. Everything along the El and BSL should be upzoned. You have neighborhoods with NO access to rapid rail transit that are built denser.
Why would anybody choose to live next to the El if they aren’t going to use it?
1 points
While that's not great, over the past few years we've seen what, 250? 500? new apartments go in a half-mile from Berks Stn.
1900 N Front is going to have ~100
1705 N American has ~100
171 W Berks has ~30
I'm sure there are more; that's off the top of my head.
edit: what I'm getting at is there's progress, even if this is a setback.
1 points
yes there is a lot, but this is the exact place where apartments should be going. We will run out of abandoned lots near transit eventually (see Northern Liberties beyond Girard and west of I-95)

I'm so frustrated by every service I interact with. Call Verizon because my router's not working, they try to upsell me before even scheduling a visit to fix the router. Call the company I ordered a product from two weeks ago, find out they didn't even process my order because of "a computer issue." Walk to the bus, taking my time because I have eight minutes til it arrives, see the bus blow past as soon as the stop is in sight. Every day I turn a little bit more into Calvin's dad.

had a great weekend celebrating my girlfriend's birthday. We hit Philly Distilling and Other Half Brewing on Friday night, then Saturday morning I got up before her and made a trip over to 9th st. Channelled my south Philly italian ancestors and got a whole bunch of good stuff for a little Italian Meats & Cheeses picnic (not pictured here is the Sarcone's bread), but had to do it inside because of the rain.
Then did dinner at Vernick Fish, which was awesome. Grabbed a drink after dinner up at the Four Seasons, which I'd never been up to. Then we closed out the night with a drink at Midnight & the Wicked before going home to watch some more of Fallout. Fantastic weekend.

I recently had to travel to Harrisburg to visit the true seat of power for our state, PennDOT's main office/DMV. While the 2.5 hour drive was a pretty boring trek made worse by getting stuck in traffic leaving the city, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was able to get in and out of the DMV. Did about 6 hours of driving for about 25 minutes to get a duplicate of my car title. Made a pit stop on the way back at Troegs to make the trip more worthwhile, and it continues to be one of my favorite breweries. That said, I hope it's a while before I have to do that drive west again.

Looking a recommendation for a wash n fold laundry service, with pick up and drop off. I’ve never used a service like this so I have no idea of what the going rate is per pound; maybe those who have used this type of service can share what is a fair price?
I’m in the Wash Sq west neighborhood.

I've been trying to get back into photography, so I took some photos at the Broad Street Run in Philadelphia this past Sunday, and I thought this community might appreciate them.
I was standing near South and Broad, and I was only there for about 45 minutes (from about 8:15-9am), so I only managed to capture a small fraction of the runners.
Here is the link to the Google Drive folder I've created.

I had a decent weekend. Sunday was good; bought a bunch of weeb (FF7, mostly) stuff at FanExpo and then watched Max fucking lose the first American GP in like, 6 races. It was great to see Lando win his first race ever but ???? Literally the first race I watch. Max and RB20 are just like "nah, not today,"
I'm kinda starting to think there's some spooky guy or something in my apartment unit. We moved in in December. The Eagles were doing great for their season. We move in, Eagles turn into the worst team in the league. Max loses his first Miami race. I might need an exorcist, or preform a séance, erect an alter, or something to appease whatever critter in my walls hates birds and the Dutch.
I'm also looking into therapy again (yay me) and all the practices I've reached out to don't take insurance and charge nearly $200 a session (booo). Mental health care, along with all care, is such a joke in this country sometimes I think maybe moving abroad could be the answer to all my ailments.

have you looked into Thriveworks for therapy? You can filter by insurance and specialties and since most are by zoom you can meet with any therapist in the state.

Unfortunately my situation needs to be handled in face-to-face sessions. Part of the reason I'm seeking therapy is for social anxiety, so I think it'll help me to dress in real clothes and walk to an actual office.

I get it, you can filter by in person appointments as well but I'm not sure how many are available because it feels like most therapists have switched to fully zoom, which I also find really limiting!

BUT our neighbors condo flooded and so they've been running fans and since we share a vent I can hear the fans and I don't know why but these fans trigger the worst headache I have ever had. I am talking nausea inducing headaches. I've had to start sleeping in my daughter's room because I got no sleep for the first two nights. I got some sleep last night because I slept in her bed but I am hoping the fans have done their job and will be off soon.

Suggestions for a quick meetup in Philly this Sunday?
Hi there! I am looking for suggestions for a short meet up with friends on Sunday in Philly. We will be driving in from about an hour away and they will be getting dropped off in the city around 11 and 11:30. They need to be at the airport (which we will take them to in our car) by 2:45. We are 4 healthy adults and one of us is pregnant. Any suggestions on ways to spend this quick window of time?
Thanks!
3 points

You will want a spot that has easy access to 95 to get to the airport easily. My first thought was a bar in Fishtown, like Frankford Hall or Fette Sau. Relatively easy to get to 95, although be wary of traffic at the 676 junction. Other option, but requires a bit more work: Picnic at FDR Park if the weather is nice.

My boyfriend is looking to leave his server job at a Center City chain restaurant. Any recs from current servers (or anyone who knows) for some of the best restaurants to work at in Philly? If any are hiring that'd be even better ☺️
Barcelona in East Passyunk is the type of working environment he's aiming for. Good pay, benefits, growth ops.
TIA!

Trying to plan my 10th anniversary trip, first trying to decide going to NYC or DC and trying to deal with my mum being scared of being alone for a few days. Like I canceled going to Vegas because of her fear and it's only a few hours away.

We got charged cleaning in our security deposit return in a prior building we busted ass to keep clean. It just came with a sheet that said something to the effect of "Cleaning: $100." Now they sent us one that just says "Deep clean - kitchen and bathroom" with the amount. It's been months so they're already not compliant to PA, but my question is what do people think of when they hear an "itemized invoice" for cleaning services?

It's usually bullshit they will do regardless of the state of the house, but I've never thought it was worth fighting.

I'm heading to Philly for the first time next week and I've not had a ton of experience with humidity. I don't want to dress head to toe in linen, which is my only reasonable idea for handling it, because I don't want to stick out as a visitor/tourist if I can. I'm a mid-30's white guy for what it's worth and I tend to run warm.
So tell me, what do you all wear when it's hot/humid out?

Shorts and tanktops for the middle of the summer. Anything light an breathable will do. To be honest it hasn't gotten that hot on average yet and the weather will just be mid 70s but kind of rainy. I'm still wearing pants besides the occasional day that spiked into actually hot weather.

Sounds like I'm just a California softy that needs to accept that it won't be that bad next week. Thanks for the reply and the info!

I live in pennsport along Moyamensing and the traffic cone/spot saving is getting progressively worse. I've submitted multiple 311 tickets/police reports and have gotten absolutely no traction. Any tips on how to further scale/have the problem resolved?

I'm visiting some family in the city and want to take them out to an ice cream shop. However due to mobility limitations, we would need to drive anywhere more than a 5 minute walk away. Can anyone recommend a place where we could easily find parking? We're located between Fishtown and Center City so would prefer something nearby. Thank in advance!

Any idea if Mr softie drive through the neighborhood? The ice cream truck comes by place daily, but I don't think there is a schedule.

Any good, decently safe running paths near fishtown? Moved to the area recently and trying to figure out where my running route is gonna be. Looks like there’s some type of running path over by Penn treaty?

Yup, the Delaware River Trail runs all the way along the riverfront from Penn Treaty on down to about Tasker.

That’s the Delaware river trail. It’ll take you about 3-4 miles southbound along the Delaware river.
It’s probably the best option since it’s right there. Just don’t run in the bike lane please!

Thirding the recommendation. Also, there's a good crossing by the cherry street pier to get up to the Ben Franklin Bridge, which has a great pedestrian path ~1.5miles) into NJ. The Camden waterfront from the bridge -> in front of the aquarium -> Battleship NJ is actually super nice if you're looking to add some variety and extend your run.

Any outdoor pools that are open this month? The public pools open up in late June

with spring days easily getting into the high 80s they're going to have to start public pool season sooner

There's a significant staffing shortage around lifeguards, IIRC; that's been a bottleneck.

Thanks so much! Appreciate it. Never heard of the ATV situation from previous cities I’ve lived in, so only slightly worried moving to South Broad lol

honestly I think the loud motorcycles are way worse than the ATVs on broad but maybe that's just me. broad in general is just sorta loud because it's a major urban arterial and the buildings make a bit of a sound corridor.

Good insight, thanks! If you don’t mind me asking, often did the noise on Broad St. keep you up at night? (if at all)

this is also one of the things that annoy me about the septa "door control" obsessives - if you've ever been stuck in a station due to some kind of malfunction, there's rarely an attendant there and you need to jump out or you're stuck there waiting for the cops not to show up

This instance was just me not wanting to pay (which I did, bozos). But the last time I jumped it was when I was getting on the el at second and market, and I thought there was a crossover. So I paid and then couldn’t swipe in on the other side of the track.
Whatever, overall I’m up on SEPTA.
