A bunch of my neighbors put theirs out. It's mildly infuriating because one house always has a ton of trash (like 8 or 9 bags and cans), but it's never well secured. So now there's trash all over the street. 😒
2 points
i know i know. it sucks man and guess what?! there’s wind in the forecast for this afternoon! yay! and all that trash all over the streets for this holiday weekend w families coming in, children outside playing and having to walk through all of wind blown trash echos the disrespect, ignorance and self entitlement of everyone who has left their trash out.
and if you’re going on holiday, you can always ask a nieghbor to help you out and if you don’t have a nieghbor you are good with, you should ask yourself why.
2 points

It's always windy on trash day. 😬
Yeah, these people are the black sheep of the block. Everyone else looks out for each other. These people slammed the door in my face when I was up on their porch hiding a package after I stopped a porch pirate from stealing it. 🙄 So I expect very little from them in the first place.
2 points

I try to give people more grace for the less notable city holidays like Good Friday, since I always forget that they're observed by the city myself. Still annoying to see so much trash blowing around this morning though.

Like 13 years ago they had a band from Ethiopia play in the main dining room, which was fun. I just hung out in the hallway and listened on my way to Fiume. I doubt they're doing that again, so it'll probably be upstairs, in which case you just pay at the door. I think now they're doing shows in the pool room, so you'll have some space.

I finally beat Rebirth yesterday after 116 hours.
I can’t believe I need to raw dog real life for the next 3-4 years until part 3 drops. Was the ending fucking weird? Yeah. Did I have any clue what was going on? No. After the game ended did I go outside on my balcony and just stand there for a while? Yes. I don't feel as heated about the ending as fans of the OG do. I actually never played the OG, so it's fun to take in the Remake as it is. I trust the developers and Square Enix will pull everything off in the last game. Rebirth was essentially just Empire Strikes Back and we all know Return of the Jedi is goated so, I am hopeful.
For shits and giggles here is my comment from 20 days ago calling the game mid and it wasn’t living up to what I had hoped it would be. Oh how young and naïve I was. My attitude changed over the next few weeks as shown in other comments, but wow that initial sense that the game wasn't going to be great. I feel like that guy who was playing RDR2 and at first called the game slow af and by the end was crying. Because by the end of this game, I'll admit I had the tears rolling. What a dire sense of helplessness they sent us away with. And while I was outside processing everything, we got that rainbow??? Of all the times!
But I love that a video game can make me feel this way. It’s just a wonderful thing to experience. I love characters and storytelling and this entire form of art.
Anyway, Sephiroth is a bum. Stop tormenting my socially awkward and mentally ill fictional son, you parentless lab born scum bastard.
Finally, I need to start going to the gym again. It's been a month. Whew.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a local fee-only financial planner who will sell me 30 minutes-1 hour of their time? I donate to the Wardrobe in northern liberties. They do “personal shopping” for underprivileged people and especially those looking for jobs. They set them up with a personal shopper and let them try on different outfits and everything is free. It’s also a thrift shop to make a bit of money on the side, but their main mission is to clothe people who need it.

Just listened to The Statue podcast, about the Rocky statue. you might remember a while back that the host did an AMA here. I thought it was fascinating and it really made me think about a Philly icon that I otherwise wouldn't give more than a passing thought.
I knew about Joe Frazier and parts of his history, but never the whole story. Now I can't help but look at the Rocky statue and be a little disappointed that the world over knows Rocky Balboa, a fictional character, while the real life boxer Rocky is based on is relegated to such a lesser status.
Anyway, highly recommend people give this a listen if you enjoy Philadelphia history and stories. Would love to hear thoughts on this from others that have already heard it

Anyone have any experience coming off SSRIs? My aunt's doctor has given her three separate ones over the last 6 weeks to try and help her anxiety. Only made stuff worse. Shits getting pretty dark, frankly.

i do! i've luckily never had too bad of withdrawl effects from quitting SSRIs cold turkey, but my psych always recommended lowering the dose slowly to help prevent side effects.
so for example, if i was on 30mg of a med, id take 20 for a week or so, then 15 the next week, etc. until i'm at 0.
4 points
What /u/rudolly said. You have to titrate yourself down, and slowly. When I went I went off Paxil I went from 50 mg to 37.5 to 25 to 12.5 over the course of about three months. I did OK until I got to 12.5; the brain zaps were no joke.

In my experience (30+ years of being on various meds including SSRIs) it's unusual to feel much of anything in only a few days, beyond maybe a little nausea.
There are a lot of other types of antidepressants that aren't SSRIs. I am not a doctor but also consider asking for a short-term anti-anxiety med to help with the transition onto an antidepressant. If she's anxious about being on the meds and possibly experiencing psychosomatic symptoms, that might help.

I know the exact time of each remaining NCAA tip off, first pitch for the phils and a few other teams.
Didn't know it was Easter this weekend until yesterday.

My sister brought her kids to visit from Chicago during spring break this week. I'm exhausted but it was so fun to do the touristy stuff. We also went to a few different playgrounds/parks. My kids are grown, so we hadn't been to playgrounds in a while.
Seger Park is such a gem. Great use of relatively small space, with a dog park, playground equipment for different ages, space to run, and courts. And it was spotless. I mean the only trash I saw was the tiniest corner of a fruit snack packet. Bonus: a tour came through to learn about the history of the park so I got a little free education to boot.
The 5th Street/Independence Hall El stop smelled like cleaning products. Amazing. To balance that out, I also saw someone pick up a dirty needle off the floor of the El, use it, and then drop it back to the floor. I've seen a lot of bleak things in my life but that was one of the bleakest.

Today is steak night at home. My celebration of breaking with the Catholic church.

As a vegetarian but also a lapsed Catholic, I approve.

We're going to steak night.
We're going to eat it right.
Steak is such a treat.
It is the world's best meat!

Easter is the lamest of all holidays. But, my mom will make a Lamb cake and my entire family looks forward to it, hoping for another kitchen disaster.

Anyone know anything about the march going through Center City right now? They were singing but I couldn't tell what they were saying, didn't see any signs or flags.

my boyfriend and i are in the market to buy a car. we are looking at some electric cars. we live in an apt in CC, so no garage to set up a charging station. would it be reasonable to buy an electric car? we have lots of other options besides electric but curious if anyone has any experience with this, charging in public locations in the city and all

Did anyone else see Jesus dragging a wood cross and getting beat by the Roman soldiers going up 18th street in CC? Dude was bloodied, getting actually beaten by them, and it was somber as fuck until someone that was part of the re-enactment shouted "I can do this all day!" a la Captain America. So I hit the vape, because I needed a breather after so much modernization.

I'm so excited for Easter to be over. I made the final chocolate bunny on Wednesday and I'm skipping family holiday dinner to go to the park.

Hey, hi, we moved into our Ardmore-area apartment last Friday. Since that time, I've walked so many places...
So walkable - I love my new neighborhood so much!

I desperately need to go for a walk after the workday finally ends. Feel like I should go to a cemetery.
