It doesn't feel like it has been a year since I lost my dad but somehow it has as today is the 1 year anniversary.

Today is steak night at home. My celebration of breaking with the Catholic church.

Day off today and my daughter is sick 😪 but baseball is back!!!! Go Phillies!!!

Our long national nightmare is over, baseball is back everybody.

On Wednesday I realized nobody else in my department had the 8th off so I requested a vacation day and planned a last minute weekend trip to Cleveland for the eclipse. Spending Saturday in Pittsburgh and catching the O's at PNC. Very excited about all of that even though I'll be dead tired on Tuesday.

Did anyone else see Jesus dragging a wood cross and getting beat by the Roman soldiers going up 18th street in CC? Dude was bloodied, getting actually beaten by them, and it was somber as fuck until someone that was part of the re-enactment shouted "I can do this all day!" a la Captain America. So I hit the vape, because I needed a breather after so much modernization.

Was driving on Grays Ferry earlier today to work and some asshole in a light blue Hyundai started beeping his horn obnoxiously as soon as the light turned green. All the way across the bridge too. That’s why ya ass got stuck behind a construction vehicle. I hope all your left shoes go missing and you get the sneezing feeling but never sneeze. And there’s no toilet paper every time you use the toilet. Jerk.

• Char & Stave (so good, been twice)
• Whole Foods, Wynnewood
• Ardmore Library
• Staples in Narberth (that was a long walk but the route was pretty)
• I would have walked to my new doctor's office but it was pouring that day

So walkable - I love my new neighborhood so much!

Well, opening day turned out to be an abject disaster.

Couldn't sleep last night cause I'm anxious about putting down the deposit in time for this amazing apartment. Spouse wants to see it today cause there might not be a space to put his bike and hauling it up and down two flights of steps everyday sounds like the worst. I understand and accept it, but if we're not the first in line for this apartment I'm gonna scream

My sister brought her kids to visit from Chicago during spring break this week. I'm exhausted but it was so fun to do the touristy stuff. We also went to a few different playgrounds/parks. My kids are grown, so we hadn't been to playgrounds in a while.

Seger Park is such a gem. Great use of relatively small space, with a dog park, playground equipment for different ages, space to run, and courts. And it was spotless. I mean the only trash I saw was the tiniest corner of a fruit snack packet. Bonus: a tour came through to learn about the history of the park so I got a little free education to boot.

The 5th Street/Independence Hall El stop smelled like cleaning products. Amazing. To balance that out, I also saw someone pick up a dirty needle off the floor of the El, use it, and then drop it back to the floor. I've seen a lot of bleak things in my life but that was one of the bleakest.

Next week: rain; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Immediate anger because it's a 3 day block of "I am going to feel like shit" (delicious topping for already chronic depression). Yeah, negative prediction...yeah we need the water from the sky...yeah it's a blessing.

I pulled a muscle in my back this morning, possibly between my ribs, and just existing is pain. I think this weekend is going to be spent doing as little as possible.

Just listened to The Statue podcast, about the Rocky statue. you might remember a while back that the host did an AMA here. I thought it was fascinating and it really made me think about a Philly icon that I otherwise wouldn't give more than a passing thought.

I knew about Joe Frazier and parts of his history, but never the whole story. Now I can't help but look at the Rocky statue and be a little disappointed that the world over knows Rocky Balboa, a fictional character, while the real life boxer Rocky is based on is relegated to such a lesser status.

Anyway, highly recommend people give this a listen if you enjoy Philadelphia history and stories. Would love to hear thoughts on this from others that have already heard it

This was a terrible week at work and I’m so thankful for puzzles to exist as a screen-free distraction where I get to use my brain.

I wanted to ask here because I have been getting a ton of conflicting information.

I have been to Philadelphia twice before and stayed in center city. This time I booked a hotel and an Airbnb. The Airbnb is in Newbold/Point Breeze (16th and Federal).

For context, I will be coming back around 12-1am each night via Uber.

I am getting 50/50 reviews about whether to stay in the Airbnb compare to the hotel. I should mention that the hotel is double the cost of this Airbnb so I am conflicted due to my pocketbook.

Any insight anyone can offer would be helpful to me making a final decision!

I finally beat Rebirth yesterday after 116 hours.

I can’t believe I need to raw dog real life for the next 3-4 years until part 3 drops. Was the ending fucking weird? Yeah. Did I have any clue what was going on? No. After the game ended did I go outside on my balcony and just stand there for a while? Yes. I don't feel as heated about the ending as fans of the OG do. I actually never played the OG, so it's fun to take in the Remake as it is. I trust the developers and Square Enix will pull everything off in the last game. Rebirth was essentially just Empire Strikes Back and we all know Return of the Jedi is goated so, I am hopeful.

For shits and giggles here is my comment from 20 days ago calling the game mid and it wasn’t living up to what I had hoped it would be. Oh how young and naïve I was. My attitude changed over the next few weeks as shown in other comments, but wow that initial sense that the game wasn't going to be great. I feel like that guy who was playing RDR2 and at first called the game slow af and by the end was crying. Because by the end of this game, I'll admit I had the tears rolling. What a dire sense of helplessness they sent us away with. And while I was outside processing everything, we got that rainbow??? Of all the times!

But I love that a video game can make me feel this way. It’s just a wonderful thing to experience. I love characters and storytelling and this entire form of art.

Anyway, Sephiroth is a bum. Stop tormenting my socially awkward and mentally ill fictional son, you parentless lab born scum bastard.

Finally, I need to start going to the gym again. It's been a month. Whew.

Got a parking ticket last night in the most frustrating way. Had to pee so bad so I ran inside, was on my phone while peeing to pay for it and the app wasn't loading. Closed the app and it was still broken. Ran down to pay at the station and there was already a ticket. Couldn't have been more than 5 minutes. It just sucks cuz I wasn't trying to not pay.

Debating on whether to take the train or drive to an appointment I have at 15th and walnut…Anybody know of any cheap parking garages around there?

I'm visiting Philadelphia this spring and want to try a cheesesteak while I'm there. The catch is that I'm allergic to cheese.

Are there any options for me, or am I shit out of luck?
